Protect What the Existing Website Has Earned
An older website may have problems, but it can also have pages that rank in search, links from other websites and content that has been indexed for years.
Those assets need to be accounted for before the new site goes live. I map important existing URLs to the new site, preserve pages that still have value and use redirects when URLs or site structure change.
I also look for content that can be improved rather than simply discarded. A redesign or rebuild is an opportunity to make the website better without unnecessarily giving up visibility the existing site has already earned.
Search visibility should be part of the rebuild plan, not something checked after the new website launches.
Local Helps When the Website Already Exists
Rebuilding an existing website starts with understanding more than what the business wants to add. I need to understand how the current site is being used, what has changed and where it is no longer doing the job.

DECISION
Treat the website as a rebuild rather than simply redesigning what had been there before. The new site needed to establish Past Perfect Decor as its own business, reorganize the content around Jennifer's new services and preserve what was still useful from the previous operation.
OUTCOME
Past Perfect Decor launched with a website built around the new business rather than the structure and identity of the company that preceded it. The site could support the services she was offering now while giving her room to continue developing the business.
The rebuild gave an established business a new website for its next chapter.
